Is there really such a thing as an easy
website setup?
The answer may surprise you. If I can set up a
website in 20 minutes using free software, you can too. Do you struggle with
the idea of building a website because you don't believe you have enough
technical skills? You are not alone.
Join the thousands that do. Beginners have the
toughest time and are always bombarded with books and websites that claim they
can easily help you build a website in no time flat.
Setting up a website in no time flat may be true
in some cases but, some people do don't find it that easy. Information that
could make it easy to build a website sometimes gets left out. It's not anyone's
fault but, partial answers always put up road blocks and hurdles you can't seem
to get around.
As a consequence, you end up back at square one
with no website. Misinformation or lack of information is one of the biggest
hurdles website beginners face. Experts that share information really mean well
but, they leave out critical steps.
When I build websites I like to have them up in
an hour or less and I like to build them using Word Press. If you have access
to web space or web hosting, Word Press is the best free software on the
planet. I hope they never read this because they might start charging.
The tools in Word Pres are easy to find and use.
The process of loading up Word Press software is easy. The cost of using the
software is free and you can't beat that. The next time you ponder building a
website, take a look at Word Press and you will have access to easy website
setup.
Are you going to give up your dream or get back
to the business of building your website?
Here are 5 easy website setup tips using
Word Press as a Platform.
1. Brainstorm for an Idea.
The best ideas come from subjects you already
know something about. Everybody knows something about something. Get a pen and
paper and jot down some ideas. If you're planning to sell a product from your
website based on your subject, do market research before you begin. Type the
product in a search engine to see what the competition is like. If you see
a lot of marketers competing in this area, they are probably making money with
the niche you like.
2. Choose a domain name with your
Keywords in them.
I wrote an article explaining why having your
main keywords in your domain name is important. The main reason is because it
gives search engines the clear intention of your website.
3. Get a hosting account.
I like using Go Daddy but, there are a lot of web
hosting companies to choose from. Make sure they offer a way to load Word Press
on their platform and they offer free email with the account.
Go Daddy makes it really easy to set up a website
on a Word Press platform and customer service is open 24 hours per day. Keep in
mind, Word Press is open source software so, technical support is limited, but
it's the same with any open source free software.
4. Load the software as your primary
website and not as a blog.
This requires you remove Word Press from the
path. Some people change Word Press to/blog when setting up a website. In this
case, we are setting up a blog that is your website. When you remove Word
Press the directory changes and Word Press becomes your website.
5. Set up Permalinks and Static page for
your website.
Go to Dashboard - Settings - Permalinks - Select
Day and name (makes links easier to read)
Create two pages; one called blog or news
and the other the main title of your website.
Go to Dashboard - Settings - Reading - Select "A static page"
Choose the home page you created as the
static page and the blog/news page for posts.
Of course there is more you can do to optimize
the website but that all comes later. You now have easy website setup steps to
build your first website.
