It is possible to build a website online and
start an online business yourself with little experience if you follow these 6
basic steps to get started.
1-Find A Product
Before you can begin to build a website online
you must know what you are going to sell or promote. If you have your own
product, make sure it has a common identifier. If you are promoting someone
else's product make sure you know the description before you move to step 2.
2- Get A Domain Name
The second step you need to do to build a website
online is to establish a domain name based on your product description and buy
a domain with that name. If you cannot find a domain exactly with your product
you should get a domain with the product in the domain somehow. Most domain
registries restrict the domain length to 63 characters, but you can get pretty
creative with 63 characters. There is a fee associate with a domain name but
the fees can range from a few dollars to thousands. Unless you are a huge
company the odds are you just need to spend a few dollars.
3- Choose An Online Web Host
A web host is nothing more than the location
where you will put your site once you build a website online. They typically
provide you with the tools to upload your site, install graphics, establish
email addresses and all round maintenance of your site. Once you sign up with a
host you will have your domain "point" to the host so the internet
knows your web site is on that space. Think of your hosting service as your
landlord. They rent you space on their server so your site has a place to stay.
If you are just starting out, look for hosts that have small packages that can
grow as your business grows.
4- Build Some Pages
Once you have your domain on your host server
it's time to build a website online by adding content. You can either build
HTML pages or us WordPress templates. WordPress has become so popular because
it is free and considered one of the easiest content management for beginners
to learn and has great online tutorials and training. While HTML is not hard to
learn with the WYSIWYG HTML editors, most host servers now have a quick install
option for WordPress. There are also free HTML and WYSIWYG editors as well.
Your host should be able to give you definite instructions on how to upload
pages and graphics.
5- Inserting Affiliate Links And
Monetizing Your Site
If you have your own product to sell or are just
trying to build a website online for fun, you will not need to insert links.
But if you have made the decision to become an affiliate marketer or you are
promoting other's products you will need to find the affiliate links associated
with the products you are promoting. The affiliate vendor you have chosen will
provide you with a link that is specific to you so you can place the link on
your site for visitors to go to.
6-Getting Your Site Noticed On the Web
When you feel you have completed the basic tasks
in order to build a website online, your site is ready but you need the search
engines and visitors to find your website. Some ways to get your site noticed
by the search engines and visitors is to submit your site to Google and Bing,
write articles for article directories referencing your site or participate in
Pay Per Click through Google. There are free and expensive ways to get your
site noticed. Set a budget, even if it is zero, and start working on getting
traffic to your online website.
Naturally these steps are not exhaustive. It is
just a fraction of insight into some of the essential activities that must be
done in order to build an online business. If you want more information, you
